JetStor and Lightbits Launch Next-Gen Software-Defined Storage for Private Clouds

The disaggregated NVMe/TCP design delivers high-performance, consistent sub-millisecond latency and better cost-effectiveness than legacy SAN.

PITTSBURGH, PA – March 31, 2026 – JetStor announced a strategic partnership with Lightbits Labs, inventor of the NVMe® over TCP storage protocol, to deliver a next-generation high-performance storage solution for private clouds. Together, they are launching next-gen, disaggregated, software-defined block storage designed to shatter the limitations of legacy SAN. By combining JetStor’s high-density, NVMe-optimized server nodes with Lightbits software-defined storage, this solution delivers a unified block storage engine capable of powering the most demanding cloud-native environments. Delivering highly available persistent volumes for large-scale Kubernetes deployments while maximizing hardware resource utilization and lowering costs.

Scaling a private cloud shouldn’t mean hitting a wall. Yet, IT teams are constantly held back by unpredictable latency, complex proprietary networks, and the high cost of hardware overprovisioning. By leveraging standard TCP/IP Ethernet, the solution bypasses proprietary networking entirely, slashing overhead and accelerating compute deployments.

Building a high-performance private cloud shouldn't require a forklift upgrade to your data center. This partnership allows our clients to push millions of IOPS through their existing infrastructure, turning standard Ethernet into a high-speed storage engine.
said Jim Gallagher, CEO of JetStor.

The Block Storage Engine for Modern Data Centers

Driven by a highly available, clustered architecture, this solution provides the “always-on” persistence required for modern, containerized environments. It strips away management complexity and lowers TCO for mission-critical environments while promising:

  • Massive Throughput: Up to 75M IOPS of clustered block storage performance.
  • Low-Latency at Scale: Consistent sub-millisecond latency that rivals direct-attached NVMe drives.
  • Standard Infrastructure: Runs over standard Ethernet, eliminating the need for specialized, costly storage fabrics.

This solution provides seamless integrations with Kubernetes, OpenShift, and OpenStack, using CSI and Cinder to simplify provisioning of high-performance persistent volumes across hundreds of clusters. For financial services, the architecture delivers the high IOPS and low latency required for real-time analytics and high-concurrency transactional workloads. Furthermore, it unleashes the full potential of high-performance databases—such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Cassandra—by ensuring consistent, sub-millisecond block latency that mirrors the speed of local NVMe storage.

We are redefining high-performance storage for mission-critical workloads. By combining Lightbits software with JetStor’s robust server nodes, we enable organizations to run their most demanding database workloads and containerized applications at peak potential while leaving the complexity of legacy SAN hardware behind.
said Sagy Volkov, Field CTO at Lightbits Labs.
