Aquatech has been thoroughly satisfied with its implementation of the StorTrends product and the system has been operating without a hitch. Fraley was pleased with the fact that he only had to contact StorAid (StorTrends Technical Support) once at the beginning regarding the initial setup of the system. Fraley found the support representatives to be responsive and very knowledgeable. Although he has not had to contact them, he knows that help is only a call away.
The challenge
After noticing major performance issues with its aging NetApp unit such as high latency on its SAP application, and underperforming Exchange and SQL databases, Aquatech IT Enterprise Architect Brian Fraley knew something had to be done. “We were constantly moving things around, setting up an old out-of-date server and juggling everything around, it worked, but we were stuck,” said Fraley. Once Fraley got a ridiculously expensive quote to renew its service agreement with NetApp, it was apparent purchasing a new solution that could meet the department’s needs was the right business decision. Fraley fielded price quotes from NetApp, Dell, Tintri, EMC, and Nimble, but the JetStor recommendation of StorTrends offered the most value and StorTrends was more than willing to stand by its product and provide a proof of concept.
The solution
JetStor suggested running the StorTrends iDATA tool in Aquatech’s technology environment for a week, and after analyzing the performance numbers, a StorTrends system was configured to help get the department back on track. The all-inclusive licensing module, independent lab test results, corporate longevity, and a host of useful features all at an affordable price, made StorTrends the obvious choice. As a result Aquatech immediately got much better performance and the capacity needed to make life easier for Fraley and the IT Department. The SAP, SQL, Exchange, and all applications are now running two to three times faster if not more than before. In regards to the StorTrends product, Fraley had this to say, “Our end users are more productive and the system is a lot simpler to manage than the previous NetApp system and it now only takes seconds to build a volume and have it there and ready to on VMware in less than two minutes.” Aquatech is very pleased with the StorTrends solution’s SSD performance and has found the Auto Data-Tiering feature to be very helpful in its everyday usage.
